Kingstown: The third one-day international between Australia and the West Indies has finished in a tie after a thrilling finish at the Arnos Vale Ground in St Vincent.
Chasing 221 for victory, the hosts appeared set to pull off a remarkable win when Darren Sammy smashed a four off Brett Lee to level the scores with three balls remaining.
But off the next delivery Kemar Roach took off for a run while Sammy stood his ground, the pair ending up at the striker's end as Brett Lee completed a run-out to finsih the match with the score level.
The result means the five-game series is level at 1-1 going into the fourth one-dayer at the nearby island of St Lucia on Friday. Australia appeared set to secure a victory when they had the hosts 6-117 following the dismissal of big-hitting allrounder Kieron Pollard for 36.
But Andre Russell (37), who was bowled off a no-ball by Shane Watson (3-30) and then again off the resulting free-hit, combined with Carlton Baugh (33) to take the Windies close.
Clint McKay (2-50) removed both Baugh and Russell before Lee dismissed Narine, and then Roach and Sammy took the Windies to within in a run of victory before the dramatic run-out.
Earlier Michael Hussey and George Bailey hit half-centuries to lead Australia to 220 all out. The 36-year-old Hussey, in his 179th ODI, stroked 67 off 95 balls with four boundaries and a six. Bailey, who made his one-day international debut in the first match of the series, compiled 59 off 87 balls with a four and a six.
The pair combined after Australia was teetering at 58-3 in the 15th over and with the five-match series currently locked at 1-1.
Offspinners Sunil Narine claimed 3-32 and Marlon Samuels 2-39, while fast bowler Kemar Roach finished with 2-42.
West Indies started brightly after Australia won the toss and elected to bat in the third straight match at Arnos Vale.
Captain Shane Watson was run out for 10 by Andre Russell's fantastic direct hit from mid-on to leave Australia on 34-1. Wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade fell cheaply after being promoted to No. 3, bowled by Narine around his legs for 2.
When David Warner, who hit six fours in his 37, slapped Darren Sammy to backward point, the hosts were clearly on top.
But Hussey and Bailey revived the visitors in a levelheaded partnership. Hussey was first to 50, off 76 balls, followed next delivery by Bailey, who took 81 deliveries.
Samuels removed both batsmen, Bailey swatting a pull straight to square leg and Hussey beaten in the flight to be stumped.
Hussey's dismissal sparked a late collapse of five wickets for six runs.
Roach bowled Brett Lee and David Hussey with clever slower balls, while Narine removed Clint McKay for a duck and Darren Bravo's pinpoint kick sent the ball into the stumps to run out Xavier Doherty.
Daniel Christian hit a late six to score 12 off 14 balls but Australia, well placed at 170-3 in the 40th over, was all out with one delivery remaining in its innings.
